‘Despicable Me’ Producer Illumination Wants to Reboot Dreamworks’ Shrek

Here’s company synergy at its…um…greenest?

Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and this week’s The Grinch, is exploring the potential for rebooting Dreamworks Animation’s Shrek and Puss in Boots franchises. It’s made attainable thanks to Comcast-NBCUniversal’s 2016 purchase of Dreamworks, which made Dreamworks and Illumination company siblings.

The concept is being overseen by Illumination founder and head Chris Meledandri, who informed Variety, which first reported the information, that nevertheless he re-imagines it, he needs to hold the voice forged intact.
